CIVL 1112 - Detention Pond Project
set cell vertical height
Notice to Bidders - The University of Memphis is seeking to build a detention pond near the Engineering buildings in the summer of 2025 and would like to invite initial bid proposals for design and construction. Three available sites on the university property are appropriate for the project. The bid/proposal must include an analysis of each assigned site with several alternative designs for the detention pond. Based on this analysis, one detention pond design for construction is recommended. All construction must be completed before August 1, 2025.

  • The final packet submitted for bid/proposal is due no later than April 29, 2025 and must include the following:

    • Title Page - Follow the Report Guidelines (1 page)
    • Table of Contents/List of Figures - Follow the Report Guidelines (1 page)
    • Introduction - Background, objective, and tasks (limited to 2 pages)
    • Methodology - - Discuss developing a detention pond to meet the design criteria. This section should discuss the following components: original topographic data (including a north arrow and street marking on the map); approximating cut-and-fill volume; approximating the pond volume; and estimating total project cost (limited to 4 pages).
    • Detention Pond Design - This section should have the following components: a discussion of the proposed detention pond design and a topographic presentation of the pond design (including a north arrow and street marking on the map) - (limited to 2 pages).
    • Strengths/Weaknesses of Design - (limited to 1 page).
    • A copy of your design must be submitted to Dr. Charles Camp

  • A mandatory poster presentation to The University of Memphis' College of Engineering's Board of Directors will occur on April 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
