The first-year Engineering
Laboratory generally does not put a student into
any potentially dangerous situation; however,
safety is a priority in most lab environments.
At the beginning of each lab, students are
informed about the day’s activities and
cautioned on any potential problems that may
occur. Students are reminded to pay close
attention to the safety precautions provided and
keep in mind that they are responsible for their
safety and the safety of other students in the
lab. In general, students are expected to behave
rationally and responsibly.
Students are required to
wear sensible clothing in the laboratory and to
wear goggles at all times while they are in the
laboratory.
During concrete experiments, students who are
sensitive to airborne dust are encouraged to
wear face masks. Students are routinely
monitored by the course instructor and the lab
assistant. In the case of an accident or
emergency, students are asked to notify the
instructors immediately.
