ITE at the University of Memphis

The Institute of Transportation Engineers at the University of Memphis has provided undergraduate students within various fields of engineering an organization dedicated to the advancement of transportation engineering and the pursuit of knowledge for students. ITE incorporates different real world applications into the students curriculum as an undergraduate in order to provide them with the cutting edge thoughts into transportation engineering.

 

Transportation Engineering: The Past and Present

Transportation Engineering has had a tremendous impact on society in the recent past. Within a century's time the world has gone from being isolated into different areas based on geography into a global interconnected community. This drast change is in part due to the major advancements in the field of transportation engineering, the entire world is now accessible to the average person. Transportation engineering affects everyone, with this in mind continuing the advancement of transportation engineering helps to further the advancement of society as a whole and improve the quality of life for all.

ITE at the University of Memphis works to promote these goals and simultaneously provide students the learning opportunities that will help them in their future careers. ITE allows students to gain real world experience in the field of transportation engineering and work directly with esteemed professionals with the newest technology. 

A brief background of ITE:

ITE is an international educational and scientific association of transportation professionals who attempt to meet mobility and safety needs and was founded in 1930. Founded in 1930, ITE serves as a gateway to knowledge and advancement through meetings, seminars, and publications, and through their network of nearly 17,000 members working in more than 92 countries. 

 

Recent Projects:

  • Dr. Martin Lipinski pioneers the new Transportation Engineering Center
  • The University of Memphis ITE student chapter has been selected to participate in the 2009 Trip/Parking Generation data collection effort offered by the International ITE organization. This is the second consecutive year the student chapter has participated in this effort, receiving the award in 2008 as well.
  • The ITE student chapter has also been awarded a MemphiSTEM STEM Club Mini-Grant for the 2008-2009 academic year. This grant will provide support for chapter outreach to underclass civil engineering students.
