William T. Segui
holds a B.S.C.E. (1960), M.S.C.E. (1964), and Ph.D. (1971), all from the
University of South Carolina. After obtaining his B.S.C.E., He served as a
commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1963 at Castle Air
Force Base, where he was an environmental engineer. In 1963, he joined
Smith, Pollitte, and Associates (now Wilbur Smith Associates) and was
engaged in highway bridge design. In 1964, he enrolled in graduate school at
the University of South Carolina, where he obtained his two graduate
degrees. He joined the Department of Civil Engineering at The University of
Memphis in the fall of 1968. Since that time, he has worked several summers
for various consulting firms and for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He is
a licensed professional engineer in Tennessee.
Dr. Segui has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in structural
analysis and design, numerical methods, surveying, and graphics. In 2000, He
was a recipient of the University of Memphis Distinguished Teaching Award.
Dr. Segui is the author of the textbook Steel Design, now in its fourth
edition. He is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction and
is a member of the Manual Committee, which reviews and updates the AISC
Steel Construction Manual. In addition, he is a Life Member of the American
Society of Civil Engineers and is a member of the board of directors of the
West Region of the Tennessee Structural Engineers Association.
