Plans are being formulated for a major fund-raising campaign to increase the endowment of the Thomas S. Fry Fund. The Fry Fund was created by a group of alumni to honor Tom Fry, former long-time faculty member and department chair, who was a model and mentor to a generation of Memphis State/University of Memphis students. The purpose of the fund is to support the geotechnical engineering instructional program within the Civil Engineering Department. Among the uses of the fund being considered are: 1). renovation of soils lab to reflect state-of-the art practice in geotechnical engineering; 2). support for students; and 3). sponsorship of an annual symposium on Memphis geotechnical issues in honor of Dr. Fry. You will be hearing from us shortly when the campaign kicks off.
