The ASCE at the University of Memphis:

The ASCE student chapter at the University of Memphis has played an important role in the education of students throughout their college education. It provides students a chance to get hands on experience in a variety of different fields of Civil Engineering. This experience helps to equip them for future work and hopes to inpsire them to excel in the field of Civil Engineering.

The main goal of the ASCE student chapter for the 2006-2007 year is to get more students involved in ASCE. So far this semester, the ASCE student chapter has traveled to Smyrna, TN for the TN section Annual meeting and the student competition held there. Other student chapters at the competition included UT Martin, Christian Brothers University, UT Chattanooga , UT Knoxville, ITT Tech, TN Tech. The U of M chapter took first place in the competition which donated $500 to the local student chapter. Other activities this semester include the Herff College of Engineering cookout, the Engineering Career Fair, the ASCE Annual Golf Tournament, and the Engineering open house.

Making a Difference

The ASCE is the oldest Engineering society in the United states dating back to 1852. It's headquarters is set in Reston, VA. Despite dating back to 1852 the ASCE is firmly commited to the progression of the field throughout the ever changing future. The ASCE student chapter at the University of Memphis continually involves the department's students in furthering their education to the highest possible levels.

Engineering the world of Tommorrow:

The world of Engineering is constantly changing and the importance of working well with others and establishing good connections throughout the respective fields of engineering is a valuable oppurtunity to students. The ASCE promotes this oppurtunity by allowing students the chance to work together on many projects relating to the field of Civil Engineering, these projects in turn make the students contacts with many different companies and give them an oppurtunity to experience engineering in an environment which promotes scholastic perfection accompanied with lifelong friendships.
