Civil Engineering Advisory Committee

MISSION

The mission of the Civil Engineering Advisory Committee is to provide advice, guidance, and support for the Department of Civil Engineering and its educational, research and community outreach programs.  Specific functions of the committee may include:
 

To review and evaluate the department's mission
To assist in the preparation of the department’s ABET accreditation self-study
To review the Civil Engineering curriculum
To assist in recruiting high school students
To assist in the educational program by serving as guest lecturers, student  mentors, judges of student design projects, and lecturers in the senior seminar class
To provide students a "practitioner interface" on non-technical subjects such as communications skills, quality programs, teamwork, and project management
To assist in monitoring the quality of the program by participating in senior exit interviews
To assist in recruiting faculty
To assist civil engineering students in securing co-op positions with local employers
To promote the department's accomplishments within the college, the university, the community, and the profession
To improve the department's relations with engineering organizations and community groups
To identify potential outreach activities to department faculty and students
To assist in fund raising for student support and departmental needs
To assist students in job placement through resume' critiques, recommending interviewing tips, etc.

 

COMMITTEE ORGANIZATION

The advisory committee will be composed of eleven (11) members.  The committee will select a chair from among its members. Members will serve three-year terms.  A member can be reappointed to additional terms.  Members will be appointed by the Department of Civil Engineering chair.  The departmental executive committee and the advisory committee will assist in selecting members. The committee may decide to appoint ad-hoc or sub-committees to address key issues.
