Research Assistantships in Civil EngineeringStructural Engineering The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Memphis invites applications for research assistantships at the M.S. and Ph.D. level. The assistantships are in the area of structural engineering and provide a stipend and tuition coverage. Current topics of research interest for the structural engineering faculty are earthquake engineering with an emphasis on risk assessment using HAZUS-MH (FEMA’s Software Program for Estimating Potential Losses from Disasters). The assistantships are in the area of geotechnical engineering and provide a stipend and tuition coverage. Current topics of research interest for geotechnical engineering faculty are engineering behavior of silt, unsaturated soil behavior, lightweight fill in roadway embankment applications over soft ground and in slope stability applications, and geosynthetics.
