Pavements that Leak -
Watch concrete taking a shower to show how a new invention - porous concrete - lets rain soak into the ground instead of running off the surface of parking lots, causing flooding and polluting our rivers and lakes
|
|
Shake, Rattle, and Stand - Earthquake engineering presentation that
includes a brief history of earthquake damage and an overview of current
methods used in earthquake engineering to prevent such damage. For
example: we show how to take the recordings of a seismograph and turn
that into ground motion so as to determine the way in which a structure
will react. Include a shake table and a liquifaction demonstration. |
|
Maintaining Water Quality - An Engineering Approach An
overview of an ongoing study of the Loosahatchie river considering what
goes into maintaining water quality in our streams. Presentation will
include information from a current research project on the Loosahatchie
River. |

From the Ground to the Customer -
Model Water Treatment System – Demonstration of a desk-top model
water treatment system simulating the processes used to treat water
supplied. This is the treatment unit used in the introductory design
class in Civil Engineering. |
|
When Would It Break? - “What or when is the moment of inertia?” –
Basic characteristics of structural mechanics are demonstrated by
loading wooden specimens at different locations along a test beam. You
get to guess at just how strong a piece of pine lumber really is. |
