Only a fool would make a recommendation about the type of career to pursue, the type of person to marry, or the type of computer to buy. I'm lots of things, but I'm not a fool.
Seriously, if you are in the market for a new computer, then you should spend as much time as possible trying out the different types of computers that are available in our campus labs. Make a few trips to the computer stores in town. (But don't listen to the sales people.) Maybe you could even explore the wide range of "consumer reports" that are available in print as well as on the web. But whatever you do, purchase the type of computer that you feel comfortable using, not the type that some opinionated fool told you to get.
